[vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image="19958" img_size="full" alignment="center"][vc_column_text]KUALA LUMPUR — Three Malaysian representatives secured a memorable victory as First Runner Up in the ASEAN Quiz 2022 competition held in Myanmar.
Sky Broxlyne Roy Maxwill from SMK Mat Salleh Ranau, Sabah, George Loh Ing Won of SMK Methodist, Sarawak and Muhammad Adam Haiqal Shaari Ismail of SM Sains Kuala Terengganu represented our country.
For the first time, Myanmar hosted the 10th ASEAN Quiz with the theme of “ASEAN: A Community of Peace, Prosperity and Sustainability, at Nay Pyi Taw on December 14, 2022.
The competition started in 2002, successfully entered its 10th hosting this year, introduced under the capacity of ASEAN-COCI (Committee of Culture and Information).
By hosting this competition, the ASEAN Quiz targets to uplift the knowledge and awareness of ASEAN current affairs among the participants as well as to introduce the youths to the culture, politics, economic, social insights of ASEAN countries.
When interviewed by the Myanmar news agency, George Loh expressed his gratitude to his teachers, team mates, coach and Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia officials.
“We did lots of research about ASEAN via online and had constant discussion with the team sometimes till wee hours, which eventually the hard work paid off.”
He added that Myanmar is a beautiful country with friendly people and they enjoyed the food and locally brewed coffee.
The competition hosting takes turn every two years since 2002. Thailand was first to host it, followed by Brunei in 2004, Malaysia (2006), the Philippines (2009), Cambodia (2012), Vietnam (2014), Laos (2016), Indonesia (2018) and Singapore (2020).
The selection for Malaysian representatives was done during the ASEAN quiz competition at national level in 2022 organised by Jabatan Penerangan Malaysia (JaPEN) in June 2022.
The national level competition was organised via online format starting from June 1 to 30 to select three participants to represent Malaysia which received 54,796 entries nationwide.
